In 2008, the Cao Nguyen Xanh (CNX) Joint Stock Company was founded by a group of agricultural experts who commit to the development of the young Vietnamese cocoa industry towards sustainability and high quality. Our mission is to help farmers Get Rid of Anxiety by using our products and services.

The establishment of a high quality sustainable cocoa industry must start with good planting materials. Thoroughly understanding this, CNX has invested its resources to produce state of the art cocoa seedlings to provide to farmers. Located in the heart of the Vietnamese Central Highlands (CH), Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province - CNX owns the most modern - largest cocoa nursery in Vietnam and the only certified cocoa bud wood garden in CH that consists of all approved cocoa varieties by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In 2010, we distributed out more than 600,000 state of the art cocoa seedlings and in 2011, we are scaling up to 1,000,000 seedlings to reach our full capacity.

CNX doesn’t merely sell seedlings but provide comprehensive solutions to cocoa farmers. Farmers who bought our seedlings were organized into cocoa clubs. CNX is providing to these clubs trainings with best practices from new cocoa farm establishment, planting, crop husbandry, pest and disease management, harvesting and post harvest technologies. We are also providing reliable fertilizers and pesticides which are specialized for cocoa uses to these cocoa clubs in late payment term. When their trees enter harvesting, at each cocoa club, CNX will support the establishment of farmer own cocoa fermentaries. These fermentaries will be trained with CNX fermentation protocols and sell the their beans back to CNX with premium.

WHY OUR FARMERS ARE ALWAYS BEING ANXIOUS ?

Lacking of access to reliable seedling sources, especially perennial industrial crops, therefore farmers are being anxious about the seedlings they bought and planted are right varieties or not? Being anxious for 3 to 4 years until they see their trees giving the right product that they were expecting. Lacking of trusted seedling sources leads farmers hesitating to invest for new planting, even though the opportunity is being seen.

Lacking of access to know-how and information, therefore they are being anxious about how to take care their farms? how to do fertilizing at different stages? how do deal with pests and diseases? how to handle post-harvest processing? especially when it is a new crop.

Lacking of market information, therefore they are being anxious about market consumption for their product when their crop giving harvest or whether the price is dropped then?

Lacking of linkage between farmers and enterprises, therefore they are being anxious about whether their product meet the quality requirement of buying companies? Whether traders will force them to sell at very low price?

With the core principle, Help farmers get rid of anxiety, CNX has invested for a state of the art cocoa nursery that is the most modern and largest scale in Vietnam. Located in an area of 6.0 hectares, the facilities of CNX consist of roofed net-houses, bud wood gardens, fermentation facilities, cocoa quality laboratory and farmer class-rooms. CNX commits to provide the best quality seedlings to farmers as well as training and technical assistance follow up. Using CNX’s seedlings, farmers do not have to worry about mistakenly buying low quality seedlings that can cause low yields and spread diseases.

CNX owns a certified cocoa bud wood garden in the Central Highlands. Our bud wood garden consists of all approved cocoa varieties by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development that allow them to be legally planted in Vietnam. The seedling production of CNX strictly follows the Ordinance of the Vietnamese Government on Plant Breeding. Using CNX’s seedlings, farmers do not have to worry about buying unrecognized or unapproved varieties that can cause "planting orange but harvesting lemon".

Farmers who buy CNX’s seedlings will be organized into cocoa clubs. By the end of 2011, CNX has formed approximately 60 cocoa clubs with about 2,500 farmers households involved. Farmers in these clubs are being trained with best cocoa practices. CNX committed to provide trainings to farmers over the cycle of new farm establishment to harvesting (3-4 years). Joining CNX’s cocoa clubs, farmers do not have to worry about lacking of know-how to take care their farms.

At each cocoa clubs, CNX will support the establishment of a farmer own commercial fermentary. These fermemtaries will buy fresh pods from club's members to do fermentation. CNX will train these fermentatary owners with CNX's fermentation protocols and provide follow up technical assistance to ensure they can produce fermented beans that meet the quality standard of CNX. At the end, CNX will buy fermented beans from these fermentaries with premium. Joining CNX’s cocoa clubs, farmers do not have to worry about where to sell their product or to sell with low price.
